Artist Statement: “Through the lows believe in the highs yet to come…”

Nad-Ned*: Crochet Passages explores the intricate interplay between materials, movement, and time. Crochet, with its interwoven threads, symbolizes the connection between past and present, tradition and innovation. The material personifies the site, whether in a built environment or the desert, reflecting the ever-shifting landscapes of our lives and serving as a reminder that challenges are ever-present yet perspectives are in flux. The somatic movements experienced by viewers mirror the gentle sway of swings. Through this tapestry of crochet sculptural swings, shifting environments, and embodied experiences, Nad-Ned provides a space to reflect on life’s transitions and serves as a reminder of the hope embedded in repair and renewal. Nad-Ned captures the ebb and flow of our emotional journeys, embodying the passage of time and the cycles of joys and tribulations.

“As an artist with a background in fashion design, my medium of choice—yarn, buttons, and threads—transforms the conventional into the captivating. I craft swings that transcend their functional purpose, evolving into lively, metaphorical textile canvases. The lobby of the Textile Building, surrounded by numerous textile vendors, offers the perfect backdrop for my creations, seamlessly complementing the vibrant textures and colors of my work. I am thrilled to showcase my unique blend of art in this prestigious space, where my swings will add dynamic elegance and a sense of healing to the surroundings.

Crochet Passages video

The video slowly glides through the intricate weave of crochet, as if the viewer is being gently pulled into the very threads themselves. The yarn, soft yet unyielding, shifts from the muted tones of black and white to bursts of vibrant color, mirroring the quiet interplay of stillness and life’s vivid pulse. The camera’s motion sways like a pendulum, inviting into a dreamlike state, as though one is cradled within the folds of the yarn itself. Light and shadow dance along the fibers, whispering of calm and inviting reflection, while the colors ripple through the frame.
