In Deville Cohen’s Xerox based videos, photographs and theater works, he uses performative and sculptural techniques to create works that reflect on the immediate relationships we have to everyday objects and environments. Cohen uses ordinary, mundane objects because he is  interested in their cultural “readymade-ness”, and the values, functions and meaning they contain inside. He is also interested in them due to their formal qualities, and according to him their narrative potential. Cohen’s work is both a meditation on our attempts to understand our immediate reality, while also being an aspiration for a temporary relief from the poorly designed systems of representation, identification, social order, and common sense in our everyday lives.
